Plaine des Sables

Once past the Plaine des Remparts, the Route du Volcan leads abruptly into the Plaine des Sables (2,260 m), a vast lunar expanse of slag and volcanic rock with mordant and reddish reflections, bordered on either side by the vertical breaks of the rivers. At the pas des Sables, to the right of the road before descending to the plain, an orientation table provides information on these natural curiosities.
