Commerson crater and viewpoint

Another 8 km after Nez de Boeuf, on the right-hand side of the forest road, there’s a lookout where you can observe this 120 m-deep, 200 m-diameter hole, which appeared during an exceptionally intense eruption. It is one of the island’s most impressive craters. The ramparts of the Commerson crater are steep: it’s not advisable to approach the rim, and it’s essential to keep an eye on children.
