The New Coastal Road

To get to La Possession from Saint-Denis, you need to take the spectacular Nouvelle Route du Littoral. This road overhangs the old Route du Littoral, which winds its way along the foot of steep cliffs, some of which are covered with mesh to prevent potentially devastating boulder falls. The Nouvelle Route du Littoral avoids the natural hazards and risks faced by this stretch of road. It is not yet complete. Its full opening is scheduled for 2028, but is regularly postponed.

Halfway along the route, a fork leads to the heart of Grande Chaloupe, a small hamlet with just a few families.
