The Takamaka valley is overlooked by steep ramparts, and abounds in opulent vegetation, one of the longest rivers on the island, the Rivière des Marsouins, grandiose waterfalls several hundred meters long and majestic rocky peaks that make this an idyllic spot. The omnipresent water is harnessed to generate electricity. It feeds two power stations, made invisible by an astonishing underground layout imposed by the rugged terrain. At its terminus, the winding road up the valley opens onto a wild, monumental panorama, an integral part of the national park and UNESCO World Heritage site.
