Quai Gilbert, 97460 Saint-Paul
Friday all day and Saturday morning.
Located on the seafront, it’s the island’s biggest market. The waterfront is transformed into a festival of colors, flavors and good cheer. Over 300 stallholders, craftsmen and farmers come from all over the island to sell local produce, fruit, vegetables, poultry, samoussas, cakes (patate, chouchou…), fish and more.
You’ll also find pareos in tropical colors, costume jewelry, decorative objects, spices for cooking or blended rum, colorful woven baskets, the bertel (the Creole backpack), or the van (the hollow woven dish used to sort rice, grains and brèdes)… Numerous Malagasy craft merchants also sell chairs, games, stones, statuettes and tablecloths. You’re sure to find what you’re looking for. If you can, stop by at the end of your stay to stock up on souvenirs.
