97439 Sainte-Rose
Several floods washed away the successive bridges built over the Rivière de l’Est, one of Réunion’s most turbulent rivers. To remedy the situation once and for all, this suspension bridge was built in 1894. At 152 metres, it was the longest bridge in the world. Decorated at each end with a large stone arch, it is one of the island’s most beautiful works of art. It majestically overlooks the Rivière de l’Est and its verdant surroundings.
Classified as a Historic Monument, it is completely pedestrianized. It has recently been renovated.
