233 Chaussée Royale, 97490 Saint Paul
The Maison Gran’cour was built in 1776. This imposing colonial-style house, surrounded by a large garden, is not to be missed. It was one of the homes of the Desbassyns family, major landowners. Slightly later than the end of the Compagnie des Indes, the architecture of the house is nevertheless strongly influenced by this period: the style of Pondicherry, the main French trading post in the Indies, was transposed to Bourbon.
The roof and facade have been classified as Historic Monuments since 1984. Cultural events are regularly held here.
