Langevin, 97480 Saint-Joseph
From the north, as you leave Saint-Joseph, follow the Route Nationale to a place called “Langevin”. At a large metal gantry used for weighing sugar cane, turn left – it’s signposted. The road then follows the river to the Cascade de Grand Galet.
The Langevin valley is a pleasant succession of pools and waterfalls in a verdant setting. Shaded by fruit trees, the river invites picnicking and swimming. In fact, the banks of the Langevin River are a popular destination for the traditional Sunday picnic.
The Langevin or Grand Galet waterfall is the last to line the river. Composed of multiple waterfalls, it spreads out over a wide mineral and plant wall over which abundant, clear water flows continuously. It is certainly one of the most beautiful waterfalls on the island.
