La Nouvelle (Cirque de Mafate) from Col des Boeufs

Departure point: Col de Boeufs (paking fee: €5 per day or €14 per night)
This is the “classic” route into the cirque of Mafate. Accessible to all, this route takes you to Mafate’s most populated ilet.
Tips: book a gîte in La Nouvelle and do the return itinerary the next day, or continue into Mafate, towards Marla for example. When you reach the Col des Boeufs, don’t hesitate to climb the two switchbacks leading to the belvedere on the right of the pass. The view over the two cirques of Mafate and Salazie is exceptional. You can admire Le Maïdo, the southern part of Mafate, the Plaine des Tamarins and the whole of the Salazie cirque.
