Bellecombe pass

Bellecombe pass

This is the terminus of the volcano road, at an altitude of 2,311 m. A large parking area and snack bar await you. This is the starting point for the hike into the Fouqué enclosure, a caldera formed 5,000 years ago. For the less athletic, a balcony offers a sensational view of the enclosure and its volcano, as well as of the small Formica Leo crater (2,202 m altitude), a much-visited crater as it is easily accessible from the top of the rampart. It was formed during an eruption in 1753. An orientation table gives you an overview of the panorama before you.
