18 Rue du Phare, 97441 Sainte-Suzanne
Built in 1845, the Bel-Air lighthouse is Réunion’s first and last lighthouse. Measuring 20 meters high, it was designed to prevent shipwrecks on the island’s dangerous coasts and has long served as a landmark for sailors seeking to reach the Saint-Denis roadstead.
Since 1985, the lighthouse has been automated. It remains an essential part of Réunion’s cultural and maritime heritage, and is now home to the Sainte-Suzanne Tourist Office. It regularly hosts exhibitions and cultural events in the former staff quarters.
